Why this role?
The Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA) is responsible for Land Transaction Tax and Landfill Disposals Tax, raising revenue that supports public services across Wales, including schools and the NHS.
As a Test Engineer, you’ll help ensure the quality, reliability and resilience of cloud‑based digital services that support tax administration in Wales. Your work will directly contribute to a fair and effective tax system, with real impact on Welsh communities.
You’ll work alongside developers, analysts and delivery teams in a genuinely collaborative Agile environment.
What you’ll be doing
As a Test Engineer at WRA, you’ll work across the full testing lifecycle, including:
Test design & execution
- Analyse requirements and collaborate with analysts to create effective test scenarios
- Design and execute manual, exploratory and automated tests
- Track defects through their lifecycle and support timely resolution
- Test functional and non‑functional requirements, including accessibility, security, performance and integration
- Support UAT and release readiness activities
- Maintain clear test documentation, runbooks and onboarding guides
Automation & CI/CD
- Develop and maintain automated tests using Playwright, Cypress or Selenium
- Embed automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins)
- Apply good version control and change management practices
- Continuously improve automation frameworks to reduce manual effort and speed up delivery
Collaboration & improvement
- Work closely with developers to agree test coverage early
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and iterative delivery
- Publish clear test status reports and highlight risks
- Collaborate with third‑party suppliers to align testing approaches
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the overall test strategy

Skills & qualifications
- Experience across the testing lifecycle
- Familiarity with browser and automation tools (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Selenium)
- Experience working in Agile teams
- ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (or equivalent)
