We’re looking for a User Researcher to lead high‑quality research that helps us design services around real user needs and behaviours, supporting consumers and shaping better outcomes across the energy sector.

The role: why it matters
As a User Researcher at Ofgem, you’ll lead research that directly informs how people experience our digital and operational services.
You’ll:
- Discover how users interact with Ofgem’s services
- Turn complex research into clear, actionable insights
- Influence service design, delivery and strategic thinking
- Champion user‑centred decision‑making across teams
- Help ensure our services are accessible, inclusive and effective for all
Your work will help ensure the energy system genuinely works for the public.
What you’ll be doing
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering end‑to‑end user research
- Selecting and applying the right qualitative and quantitative methods
- Recruiting participants and managing research logistics
- Independently running research sessions and analysing findings
- Synthesising insights into stories and actions for teams and leaders
- Working closely with designers, product managers, developers and analysts
- Helping embed user‑centred design practices across projects
- Supporting the growth of the user research community through knowledge‑sharing, presentations and blog posts
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Professional experience as a User Researcher, working alongside other UCD disciplines
- Confidence influencing and engaging senior and sceptical stakeholders
- Experience conducting inclusive and accessible research
- Strong judgement in choosing research methods that fit the problem
- Clear communication skills and confidence storytelling insights
- A collaborative mindset and passion for user‑centred thinking
