In our MentorHER Spotlight series, we're catching up with previous mentors and mentees to hear about their experiences, the connections they've made and the difference mentoring has made to their professional journeys. This time, we're hearing from Becca Anderton, Head of Engineering at hedgehog lab.
As we prepare for MentorHER Cohort 4, delivered through Manchester Digital's DigitalHER programme in partnership with Autotrader, applications are now open for women at the beginning of their digital and technology careers, alongside experienced women who would like to support the next generation of talent.
Applications close Sunday 8 November. Find out more and apply for MentorHER Cohort 4.
Name: Becca Anderton
Role: Mentor
Position at time of programme: Head of Engineering
Mentee's position: Digital Consultant
What made you want to get involved in MentorHER?
Having worked my way up through the tech industry I wanted to offer the level of support I often felt like I didn't have in order to support someone else with their progression.
What was the most valuable or memorable part of your experience?
Working with Lisa was genuinely a pleasure. I found the whole experience really valuable. It was such a pleasure seeing her grow in confidence over the months we spent together, and seeing her take huge leaps forward in her career as well.
What impact has the programme had on you, personally or professionally?
I found it very validating being a Mentor, it changed my perspective on my own progression and capabilities. I found myself giving advice to my Mentee that I realise I should really take on board myself. It definitely improved my confidence in certain areas and made me change my perspective & approach in certain areas of my own work.
What would you say to someone considering applying as a mentor or mentee?
I would encourage them to absolutely go for it and jump straight in with both feet. The experience is incredible for both mentors and mentees and there is so much to gain from being a part of something like MentorHER.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Just that I'm incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to take part in MentorHER.
