What you'll do


As a Content Designer you’ll:

  • create, improve and manage user-centred content using analytics, user feedback, user research and other sources of information
  • contribute to and help develop content principles, improvements and templates used on GOV.UK
  • identify the needs of users, write user stories, design content plans, create and publish content
  • identity and collaborate effectively with stakeholders, making sure appropriate policy and legal checks happen within other departments of government
  • develop and apply content and format strategies with support from a senior content designer
  • contribute to the cross-government and GDS content community

We’re interested in people with skills in:

  • creating, improving and publishing user-centred content
  • using analytics, user feedback, user research and other sources of information to make decisions about content and how to improve it
  • project management, including the ability to coordinate a number of projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
  • working with stakeholders to understand their issues while maintaining content quality
  • working on and helping to implement content strategies, as well as helping to improve processes
  • working to tight deadlines and under pressure while ensuring attention to detail
  • working with content publishing systems


The selection process for this role consists of:

  • An application screening process
  • A task to complete
  • An interview

Additional Information

GDS is based in Bristol, London and Manchester, and you will be working with colleagues across all three sites. GDS supports flexible working, including a balance between office and home-based working. Normally this will mean 2 days a week in the office, or more if that works better for you and the role.

 

A reserve list will be held for a period of 12 months, from which further appointments can be made.

Candidates that do not pass the interview, however have demonstrated an acceptable standard will be considered for similar roles at a lower grade.
