Job summary
Join Companies House as an Apprentice Configuration Analyst and help keep our technology running smoothly!
Our Configuration Management Team ensures all IT hardware and software across Companies House is accurately recorded, tracked and maintained in our central Configuration Management Database (CMDB). From laptops to servers to software licences, we make sure everything is up‑to‑date, compliant and properly managed.
As an apprentice, you will:
- Support the maintenance and accuracy of the CMDB
- Work with industry‑standard tools such as ServiceNow and SNOW Licence Manager
- Learn from experienced Configuration Managers and Analysts
- Contribute to real project work while developing your technical skills
You’ll also study for a Level 4 Digital Infrastructure Engineer Apprenticeship with ALS Training. You’ll spend four days gaining hands‑on experience and one day each week dedicated to your studies, supported by your line manager and mentor.

Job description
As an Apprentice Configuration Analyst you’ll be involved in:
- Tech Asset Management
Handling IT hardware/software requests, reusing stock to reduce waste, tracking assets via CMDB, and following procurement processes. - Software Standards & Governance
Supporting the Software Approval Group (SAWG) in reviewing software requests and ensuring all software meets organisational standards. - Compliance & Audits
Assisting with audits to verify legal compliance and alignment with licence agreements and policies. - Version Control & Upgrades
Maintaining consistent software versions and supporting the smooth rollout of updates. - Tool Support
Managing tools like SNOW Licence Manager and Inventory Manager, ensuring schedules, backups, and system health checks run smoothly. - Process Improvement
Reviewing and enhancing configuration data management, aligning with ITIL best practices. - ServiceNow Tasks
Handling Service Now task (via a ‘ticket’ system), updating our CMDB, maintaining the Service Catalogue, testing new features and assisting Companies House colleagues with various software and hardware requests - SNOW Licence Manager Admin
Adding and managing licences, monitoring compliance, resolving issues, and maintaining scanning schedules and backups. - Operational Support
Providing asset data to Finance, managing staff lifecycle events, labelling assets, running audits, and assisting other teams.
Alongside your role, you’ll be working towards a Level 4 Digital Infrastructure Engineer qualification (find out more here: Level-4-Digital-Infrastructure-Engineer.pdf) with one day a week dedicated to study time. It’s a great way to build your skills, gain a recognised qualification, and kickstart your career in tech.

Person specification
We’re looking for an Apprentice Configuration Analyst with:
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- The ability to examine things and to break problems down.
- Strong communication skills, both when writing and speaking.
- A careful, step-by-step approach to checking information and making sure it's correct and that the right processes have been followed.
- The ability to work with other people and support colleagues.
- Great organisational skills to manage their tasks and time really well.
Eligibility Criteria
There are some important things to be aware of when applying for this apprenticeship:
There are no age requirements for this apprenticeship – we welcome all applications.
If you’re shortlisted for interview, we’ll ask you to confirm your name, date of birth and National Insurance number so we can share them with our apprenticeship provider. This is only to check your eligibility for apprenticeship funding.
So that we can provide you with all of the support and training you need, you’ll be required to attend our Cardiff office for a minimum of 3 days per week during the training period and then 2 days a week once training has been completed.
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you need to:
- Not already hold a qualification at the same level or higher than the Level 4 apprenticeship linked to this programme. For more information on qualification levels, please visit: What qualification levels mean: England, Wales and Northern Ireland - GOV.UK
- Have achieved a GCSE grade C or higher (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language (or equivalent qualifications). We’ll ask for evidence of this before you can progress to interview.
- Live in Wales for at least three days a week at the start of the apprenticeship and throughout its duration.
- Not be in full-time education.
- Hold a British Passport or indefinite leave to remain status in the UK.
- Meet the Civil Service Nationality Requirements.
- Companies House cannot offer Visa sponsorship for this campaign.
