About the job

Job summary

It is an exciting time for HM Land Registry as we continue on a major transformation programme. HMLRs ambition is to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data.

We are looking for 2 Interaction Designers to join our Customer and Strategy directorate. You will be a confident and competent designer who is able to develop designs based on evidenced user needs and organisational outcomes.

Check out the video below to see what it is like to work in Digital Careers at HMLR:

Job description

As a Interaction designer you will work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team with other digital and technical experts to deliver one or more digital services. You will work out the best way to allow users to interact with services, in terms of both overall flow and at the level of individual design elements. Interaction designers at HMLR work across the full design lifecycle from understanding user needs to prototyping and iterating based on feedback and data.

You will:

  • analyse and interpret user needs and business objectives in highly complex service areas to understand problems to be solved
  • develop and recommend design concepts that help re-imagine how services can be delivered end-to-end and identify potential areas of improvement
  • work with user researchers, business analysts and developers to turn concepts and design hypotheses into user-centred services
  • design interactions and flows that simplify complex systems and services
  • support workshops and design sprints with the team, senior stakeholders and users
  • create and rapidly iterate low and high-fidelity prototypes to test and communicate ideas with users
  • presenting work back within your agile team, and at community show and tell, critique and feedback sessions
  • utilise the design system patterns and components and contribute new patterns to our design system with support from the team
  • contribute to services assessments as necessary to ensure the services meet the Service standard
  • Support design leadership to communicate the value of user-centred design in the organisation

You’ll be an essential part of a thriving design community and an inclusive and collaborative culture where your opinion is valued. We offer training opportunities, professional development, and support from expert colleagues.

Person specification

To be successful in this role you will have knowledge of what good end-to-end public services look like and recognise the importance of designing in an inclusive, accessible way.

You will also be adept at creating useable, responsive and accessible user interfaces. You will also be able to understand users' needs and participate in research activities, using research to inform the design.

You have a good grounding and experience in user-centred design, from concept to final delivery; and experience of producing simple designs to solve problems for complex journeys and multichannel services.
