As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll provide leadership and deep technical expertise to ensure DWP’s platforms remain secure, resilient and highly available, while continuously evolving to meet future demand.
About the team
The Hybrid Cloud Services (HCS) team:
- Designs, builds and operates cloud and on‑prem hosting platforms
- Supports product teams to migrate and modernise services
- Runs critical national infrastructure with high availability requirements
You’ll work closely with engineers, service managers and build teams, providing operational leadership and technical assurance.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will:
- Lead and be accountable for a specialist 3rd‑line infrastructure operations team
- Act as a major incident manager and escalation point, supporting the resolution of critical live service incidents
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
- Analyse service availability, reliability and performance against agreed SLAs
- Identify, investigate and resolve recurring infrastructure and service problems
- Drive continual service improvement, identifying preventative measures and best practice
- Manage infrastructure capability and capacity to meet current and future needs cost‑effectively
- Work closely with infrastructure build teams to shape future technology direction
- Own and manage risk for your technical area, including maintaining mitigation plans
- Produce high‑quality management information to support decision‑making

Essential experience & skills
You’ll bring strong experience in:
- On‑premise hosting environments
- Leading teams delivering and supporting infrastructure services
- Windows Server and Active Directory
- Anticipating and preventing technical failures
- Root cause analysis across complex technology stacks
- Supporting and building problem‑solving capability in others
You’ll also have experience in one or more of:
- Azure cloud
- HPE Blade systems
- Hyper‑converged infrastructure (e.g. Nutanix Enterprise Cloud)
- Technologies such as VMware, AVS, OCI, AOS/AHV and Prism
