Candidates requesting to work in Newcastle, the role will initially be based at Benton Park View. It will then move to 1 Pilgrim Place in Newcastle city centre by the end of 2027.

About the Job

Job summary

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will lead a team of BAs across the product delivery lifecycle to bring together stakeholder needs and technical capabilities to define solutions that deliver value, often working across large complex products or several products.

You will be experienced as a BA in a wide variety of business analysis tools and techniques in an Agile environment and can advise your team on the appropriate use of each method depending on the stakeholders/scenario.

You will be given the opportunity to continue to grow your management capabilities through managing a team of BAs, including line management responsibilities, as well as managing relationships with senior stakeholders as you progress to becoming a leading figure within the BA community.

You will be expected to represent the profession externally, both within the DWP & the wider government and to the BA community.

We have vacancies in several areas within DWP Digital including:

  • DWP Analytics - an enterprise level capability supporting Fraud and Error reduction and real time decision making by integrating directly into citizen and agent facing services.
  • Health and Disability Delivery Team and the Functional Assessment Service - responsible for the management of several IT assets supporting DWP’s most vulnerable customers.
  • Working Age Services - Digital Working Age Services in DWP delivers Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance and Jobseekers Allowance to over 6 million customers. It delivers financial support to some of most vulnerable people is society and delivers a range of products that help towards finding sustainable employment.
  • Benefit Supporting Services in DWP supports the majority of core Benefit Payment Systems and Supporting & Enabling Services that pay £150 Billion to over 15 million customers each year.
  • Digital & Transformation Group’s Corporate Centre Services (CCS) works in partnership across DWP to shape the next generation of the Department’s corporate digital ecosystem - a modern, integrated and user centred environment that enables One DWP. The AI Innovation & Improvement team applies advanced product thinking and AI driven innovation to design intelligent services, integrated platforms and data enabled tools that support more than 90,000 colleagues across HR, Finance, Commercial, Estates, Security and Policy.
  • Communication, Collaboration and Network Services - work in collaboration with a range of internal and external partners, stakeholders and customers to ensure the operational stability, availability and quality of DWP Networks and ensuring that a robust and resilient infrastructure is maintained.

Job description

As a Senior BA working within Digital these are some of the things you will be doing:

  • Operate as a BA either on large, complex products or services, or across several products or services simultaneously
  • Manage and communicate effectively across senior technical and business stakeholders, ensuring the understanding of requirements and acceptance criteria is aligned.
  • Lead and oversee the refinement and elaboration of backlog items across teams to ensure delivery readiness and enable solution design, development and testing. Provide guidance and quality assurance on acceptance criteria and test scenarios, mentoring BAs to uphold best practice.
  • Identify potential business process improvements, considering wider impacts, risks, issues and benefits, and identify the changes needed to implement those improvements. Provide advice and guidance on process improvement approaches and analysis techniques.
  • Lead workshops, interviews and other investigation techniques to effectively understand business problems, business needs and user needs within large complex products or services.

  • Demonstrates significant experience of leading other BAs in the delivery of business analysis activities within complex projects environments.
  • Demonstrates experience in undertaking cross-cutting analysis across several feature/product teams to identify improvements.
