At the Office for National Statistics (ONS), your work will help produce the statistics that shape decisions across government and inform the nation.
From inflation to GDP, you’ll turn complex data into meaningful insights, helping decision-makers understand what’s happening in the UK economy and what comes next.
About the role
As a Data Analyst, you’ll support the delivery of the Economic Statistics Plan, a major programme focused on strengthening the quality and trust in UK economic statistics.
You’ll work with large, complex datasets to produce high-quality analysis and insight. This is a hands-on role where you’ll clean, link and interpret data, helping transform how statistics are produced and used across the organisation.
What you’ll be doing
- Collect, clean and manage large, complex datasets
- Analyse data to identify trends, patterns and insights
- Link and combine datasets to support deeper analysis
- Produce clear, user-friendly outputs for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Use tools for data visualisation, modelling and analysis
- Support data quality checks and ensure accurate, reliable outputs
- Apply statistical techniques such as forecasting and time series analysis
- Present findings and make recommendations based on data
- Work collaboratively with teams across ONS to support shared objectives
What we’re looking for
- Strong ability to analyse and interpret complex data
- Experience using programming tools for data analysis
- Ability to identify and communicate trends, insights and anomalies
- Confident communicating with technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong stakeholder engagement and collaborative working skills
Qualifications:
- Degree (2:2 or above) in economics, a numerate subject or social science, or
- Membership (or eligibility) for a government analytical profession, or
- Relevant work experience in data analysis or research
