Join Justice Digital, Data and Science and help shape services that make the justice system simpler, more effective and easier to use. As a Lead Service Designer, you’ll play a key role in transforming how services work, improving experiences for both staff and the public.
This is a senior leadership opportunity where you’ll influence large-scale, high-impact services, helping create a more joined-up and user-centred justice system.
About the role
You’ll lead service design across the Prisons Digital team, building and embedding a strong, high-performing design capability across multiple product teams. Working as part of the senior leadership team, you’ll help shape strategy, set standards and ensure services are designed with users at the centre.
This is a role where you’ll have real influence, supporting the design of services that help protect the public, improve environments in prisons, and support rehabilitation through education and employment.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and develop a service design community across multiple teams
- Set and maintain high standards for user-centred design practice
- Coach, mentor and support designers to build capability
- Shape recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning for design roles
- Support teams to design consistent, joined-up service experiences
- Provide expert guidance on complex or high-risk services
- Promote inclusive, accessible and evidence-based design
- Work closely with senior leaders across design, product and delivery
What we’re looking for
- Strong experience leading service design across complex, large-scale services
- Ability to communicate strategy and influence senior stakeholders
- Experience embedding inclusive, accessible and user-centred design practices
- Confidence balancing user needs, business goals and technical constraints
- Strong collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience using research, data and insights to drive decisions
- Ability to lead iterative, agile design approaches
- Proven ability to build and grow design capability through leadership and mentoring
