Help shape how one of the UK’s most important organisations uses data. At the Office for National Statistics (ONS), you’ll play a key role in making sure the data behind official statistics is trusted, well-managed and used to inform decisions that impact society.
About the role
As a Data Governance Manager, you’ll be at the heart of how data is managed across ONS. Working with teams across the organisation, you’ll help ensure data is used safely, effectively and responsibly, from how it’s collected, to how it supports research, policy and decision making.
You’ll influence how data is governed across its full lifecycle, helping to embed standards, improve practices, and ensure data is treated as a valuable asset.
What you’ll be doing
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders to embed data governance across ONS
- Providing advice on data protection, security, ethics and legal considerations (e.g. GDPR)
- Supporting the development and improvement of data governance frameworks and standards
- Promoting good data practices (quality, metadata, accessibility and reuse)
- Translating complex data concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Identifying risks and supporting informed decision making across teams
- Helping improve how data is managed and used across the organisation
What we’re looking for
- Experience working with stakeholders and building strong relationships
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Understanding of data governance, data management and best practice
- Knowledge of data protection, risk and compliance principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work within a strategic context and support organisational goals
